Bongo Barry April 30, 1954 - August 26, 2009 RIP

All of us at Hiccup Productions were honored to call Bongo Barry our friend. It was an absolute pleasure having him on the Hiccup Roster.

For those who worked with Barry, thank you all for making him a part of your events and lives. Please continue to keep his family in your thoughts. Barry would want us all to be at peace with his passing. He put his whole heart into his music and reached so many people with his gift. His mind, body and spirit finally decided it was time to rest. His commitment to the performing arts will never be forgotten. As Barry would say, "Happy drummmmin!" Read his story

BIOGRAPHY

Barry Bernstein’s belief that EVERYONE can play an instrument and sing has led to his passion for creating participatory musical experiences. Known to kid’s around the world as “Bongo” Barry, he has dazzled and delighted children from ages 1 to 100 from his bag of 350 percussion instruments.

Bongo BarryBongo Barry is a registered music therapist and founder of Healthy Sounds, a consulting service dedicated to spreading the word about the healing and motivational power of music and rhythm. In 1991 he co-founded Rhythm for Life with Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead.

Recent awards include Drum Magazine’s 2003 Best Drum Circle Facilitator of the Year and 2004 Kansas Distinguished Service Award for Arts and Disabilities from the Kansas State Board of Education. His work has been featured in several national publications including, the New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, and Better Homes & Gardens.
